Porcelain Veneers

What are porcelain veneers?

Veneers are thin shells of high-strength porcelain permanently bonded to the surface of teeth to improve the overall aesthetics of a smile. Veneers are minimally invasive, requiring minimal tooth preparation of healthy tooth structure and overlay your natural tooth to change the shape, colour or the overall appearance of your smile.

Before: Worn and discoloured teeth.

After: Porcelain veneers were fitted as well as whitening of the natural teeth to create this beautiful new smile.

Porcelain VS Composite Veneers

Porcelain Veneers are ceramic and can be made to perfectly match the appearance of natural teeth. They are ideal for moderate to major tooth changes where tooth shape, texture or discolouration are concerned. Porcelain veneers are manufactured in a dental laboratory and usually fitted by a dentist specifically trained in the art and science of cosmetic procedures. Dr Rogers our Clinical Director is an internationally recognised DSD Instructor and has performed thousands if veneers since their inception in the late 1980’s

Composite resin veneers (bonding) are tooth coloured composites which are a suitable choice for small to moderate changes. This type of veneer is often used to repair chips or minor tooth fractures, to create minor tooth shape changes or to close gaps between teeth.

Porcelain veneer process

To ensure your total satisfaction, the porcelain veneer procedure includes your direct input in the design process using Digital Smile Design in reshaping, widening and brightening your smile. After designs are completed, we will transfer your digitally designed smile to your own mouth, in a fully removable format giving you the opportunity to trial your new smile and make adjustments based on your feedback to create the final smile design before any treatment has commenced.

Once we have confirmed the design process in your own mouth, we take an accurate impression or digital scan of your prepared teeth, the impressions are sent to a Melbourne based laboratory to create your custom made veneers.

Once your smile design has been finalised and your custom-made veneers have been fabricated, the thin skins of porcelain are then fused to the surface of the teeth enabling normal eating and social activities to resume immediately. After treatment you will feel excited about your beautiful new smile and many patients report an increase in confidence and general happiness.

At DR Dental South Yarra, we only use Australian made porcelain veneers, we do not use overseas laboratories.

Crowded teeth treatment

Traditionally, the only option for patients with crowded teeth would have been braces.

Whilst orthodontic treatment is a very good option to realign crowded teeth, the time required to achieve the straightening (whilst wearing braces or Invisalign) can extend to 9-12 months and the patient may have time restrictions that prevent this treatment option.

Whilst orthodontics is a very successful treatment option, some patients prefer a more instant result as achieved here with porcelain veneers in 2-3 weeks.

Modern day procedures enable dentists to use porcelain veneers to straighten crowded teeth, lengthen short teeth and improve self-confidence with a brighter, fuller smile.

Two visits were required for this amazing transformation and the patient wore veneers created with the Digital Smile Design process to confirm the colour and length that created this new smile.

Gum lifts and veneers

There are now solutions for those of us that are embarrassed to smile, due to feeling self conscious about small teeth or showing too much gum. Gums can be raised by a procedure that removes excess gum, often with no stitches required. It’s a painless, comfortable procedure that usually takes place in the chair.

The Digital Smile Design process creates an ideal template for the amount of gum adjustment required. The results are dramatic showing more teeth for a fuller instant smile.

A gum lift used in conjunction with porcelain veneers is an ideal way to correct oddly shaped, small or crooked teeth. Colour matching the veneers to your adjacent teeth prior to their final fitting procedure ensures a perfect smile that you will be proud of.

Everyone smiles in the same language.
