Dental Implants
A dental implant replaces a fractured or missing tooth via the placement of an implant under the gum and a crown above the gum.
It is traditionally made of titanium which is biocompatible and an artificial tooth is attached to the titanium post. DR Dental uses a speciality team of Periodontists to place the implants and Dr Rogers completes the superstructure crown some 3-6 months after implant placement.
Implants can replace single teeth lost as a result of traumatic accidents or tooth fracture from deep decay. Their life expectancy ranges from 25 years to a lifetime as long as good professional and home care is carried out.
Multiple implants can be inserted to replace multiple teeth especially where a loose fitting denture needs stabilising, This procedure also supports partial or full dentures.
Is a bridge better than an implant?
A dental bridge takes 2-3 weeks to construct and requires no surgery as is required with an implant. An implant can take between 3-6 months to complete due to the need for bone to heal around the implant. The adjacent teeth are kept in untouched condition with an implant placement.
